What We Do In Schools

Where we work

Nine Schools. One Vision.

LightSpace Ministries is currently active in the following primary schools across Grantham and the surrounding villages:

Allington CE Primary School
Ancaster CE Primary School
Barrowby CE Primary School
Belmont Academy
Belton Lane Primary School
Harrowby CE Primary School
Little Gonerby CE Primary Academy
St Anne’s RC Primary School
St Sebastian’s RC Primary School

Three of our schools – Barrowby, Belton Lane, and Little Gonerby – are partner schools where we journey with children along the full discipleship pathway in collaboration with local churches.

Collective Worship & Open the Book

Bringing Bible stories to life

Our volunteers and School & Church Work Facilitator visit schools to lead whole-school Collective Worships that are inspirational, invitational and inclusive. These sessions give children and staff the opportunity to connect with Bible stories and reflect on how the values and message of Jesus might speak into their own lives.

One of the centrepieces of our Collective Worship programme is Open the Book – a storytelling resource from Bible Society in which trained volunteer teams bring key Bible stories to life through simple drama and narration. With colourful props, costumes and scenery made by our dedicated props team, these sessions make a real and lasting impression.

Lunchtime Clubs

A space to explore and ask questions

Our lunchtime clubs are a great part of what we do. These small-group sessions give children a space to go deeper – to explore the Bible stories they have heard in Collective Worship, to ask questions, and to begin to understand how a relationship with Jesus could make a difference in their own lives.

The clubs are intentionally informal and interactive. There is always craft, often games, and always conversation. Children come because they want to – and they keep coming back.

Lunchtime clubs are often offered shortly after an Open the Book session, so children can revisit and respond to the story in a more personal way.

Workshops

Going deeper with Scripture Union resources

LightSpace Ministries offers two workshop programmes sourced from Scripture Union, designed to give children a hands-on encounter with the Bible and with the big questions of life.

📖

Diary of a Disciple

Aimed at 8–11 year olds, this workshop gives children a creative way into the Bible through Luke’s Gospel and Acts, retold in a quirky, contemporary style. Each child works through a booklet and takes part in a craft activity.

👥

It’s Your Move

Designed for Year 6 children preparing for secondary school, this workshop meets them exactly where they are – addressing real concerns about new friends, homework, bullying and belonging, with faith and community as an anchor through big changes.

Schools who would like to book either workshop are welcome to get in touch.

Community Experiences

Connecting schools, churches and families

Throughout the year, LightSpace Ministries works in partnership with local churches and community organisations to create engaging and memorable experiences for the school and wider community, helping people connect with the Christian faith in meaningful and accessible ways.

Experience Easter
Each year we host Each year we partner with The Church of the Ascension in Grantham to bring Holy Week and the story of Easter to life. Schools visit the church to journey through a series of interactive stations – from the Last Supper to the Garden of Gethsemane, the crucifixion to the resurrection. It is a powerful and moving experience for children and staff alike.

Dysart Park Events
Each year we attend community events in Dysart Park that bring together families, schools and churches in a fun and welcoming environment. Highlights include the Gingerbread Festival, held on the second Sunday in May, and the Family Fun Day on the first Sunday in July. These events are filled with activities, entertainment and opportunities to connect, creating a joyful space for the whole community to enjoy.

We are always open to partnering with more churches or community groups. If you would like to explore what this might look like, please get in touch.

Wellbeing

Supporting the people who care for children

In some of our partner schools, we offer a pastoral listening service for members of staff. Our trained volunteers provide a confidential space where staff can share any worries or concerns they may be carrying – not a counselling service, but a compassionate and attentive ear from someone who genuinely cares. This service is offered because we believe that the wellbeing of those who care for children matters deeply. When teachers and support staff are supported, everyone benefits.
